Samsung Ego GT-S9402 Luxury handsetSamsung has a brand new luxury cellphone in the Samsung Ego GT-S9402. The body of this handset is made of a “liquidmetal” composite alloy developed by Caltech, which is said to be three times stronger and can withstand 1.8 times the pressure, 1.6 time more flexible then, with three times better vibration absorption, and 100% lower termal conductivity then titanium. That’s quite a claim.

Samsung Ego: Luxury phone with Dual-SIM support

Written by Naveen on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 in News.

Target Customers: Fashionistas.

We all know that Samsung’s previous forays into luxury phones weren’t much of a success, but they are now hoping to steal a bit of the show with the Samsung Ego S9402 luxury phone. Instead of going for some fancy design, they have selected the classical candybar form factor. The body of S9402 Samsung Ego phone is made of liquid metal composite alloy developed by Caltech. And yes, it’s a DuoS phone with space for two SIMs. The spec sheet looks quite decent, except for the fact that the phone doesn’t have 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS.

Nokia's unlocked N85 now available with Amazon

We first saw the reports that the Nokia N85 would be heading to the US a few months back and now it looks like it has almost made an appearance.  Well, technically it is available for you to purchase.  However it is currently listed with a 2 to 4 week shipping time, so it will be a little while before you will have it in-hand.  The listed N85 comes in Copper and is unlocked for use in the US.  The one drawback here is the price—$555.59.

Of course, while it sounds expensive, it really is not out of the normal price range for unlocked phones, it is also much nicer looking than the $1,200 list price.  Given that, it almost seems like you are getting a bargain.  Just as a refresher, the Nokia N85 features a 5-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi and has a 2.6-inch AMOLED QVGA display.  It is also running S60 and has support for 3G.

Cowon S9 Curve

Cowon has been teasing us for a while now with their S9 Curve, but it looks like we have some concrete information saying that the S9 will be available in States around Christmas time.  It makes sense for Cowon to make it available around then, as more people would buy it as gifts.

In case you don’t remember the specs of the S9, I’ll give you a rundown.  It comes with a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 480 x 272 resolution.  In addition, it comes with improved BBE audio, DMB receiver, dual core processor, FM Tuner, and 40 hours of battery life when playing audio.  It is set to be available in an 8GB model and a 16GB model.  No word on exact pricing as of yet, but expect it to be a little on the expensive side.

iriver SPINN

As many companies generally lower their prices on their goods in time for the holiday season, iriver has already got a head start on this as they have reduced prices on three of their hottest players.  Thanks to a tip, we know that the three players are the iriver SPINN, the Lplayer, and the E100.  All of these deals will start on November 1st and end on December 31st, more than enough time to complete all of your holiday shopping.

Let’s first begin with iriver’s SPINN.  In case you don’t remember the exact specs here is a recap.  First off, it comes with a 3.3-inch AMOLED touch screen, FM tuner, audio and video playback, picture display, and Bluetooth connectivity.  One of the unique featuers about the SPINN is the way you navigate through the device - using the spindle tool on the side of the device.  Previously, the 4GB version sold for $250 and the 8GB for $290.  However, under iriver’s new deal, you can get the 4GB for $189.99 and the 8GB player for $229.99.

Next, we have the 2-inch iriver Lplayer.  It comes with FM Radio, FM Recording, photo display, music and video playback, 4 hours of audio, and 12 hours of video all on a single charge.  Before, the 4GB model sold for $110 and the 8GB model sold for $160.  However, the 4GB model will currently sell for $69.99 and the 8GB will sell for $99.99.

Last, but not least, we have the iriver E100.  This MP3 player comes with a 2.4-inch TFT LCD screen, built-in stereo speakers, FM Radio, micro SD expansion, photo display, music and video playback, and plays 5 hours of straight video and 17 hours of audio.  Before, the 4GB sold for $110 and the 8GB sold for $160.  Starting November 1st, the 4GB will sell for $69.99 and the 8GB for $99.99.

Personally, I think this is a great deal from iriver, but their success with it will depend on what other PMP companies decide to do for their products.

Written by Staska on Saturday, October 25th, 2008 in News.

Samsung has been the first and so far the only major handset manufacturer  to offer dual SIM card phones outside China.

And it already has an impressive Dual SIM phone collection under the DuoS brand, which includes their first two SIM phone -  Samsung D880, the cheap Samsung P240 / D780, and Samsung D980 touchscreen phone.

Today we learned that there’s a new dual SIM phone coming.

This time Korean manufacturer is aiming to the very high end segment of the market with it’s new Samsung S9402 DuoS luxury handset.

Samsung D9402 will be made of premium materials which include hardened scratch resistant display glass and metal frame covered with rhodium (chemical and mechanical damage resistant platinum group metal). It will also come equipped with Bang & Olufsen/ ICEPower amplifier to improve sound quality of the phone speakers.

Other Samsung S9402 specs include:

  • Triband GSM (900/1800/1900 Mhz), GPRS/EDGE connectivity on 1st SIM card
  • Dual band (900/1800 Mhz), GPRS/EDGE connectivity on 2nd SIM card
  • 2″ 262K color QVGA AMOLED display
  • 5 mpx camera with autofocus, image stabilization, smile detection, WDR and LED flash
  • FM Radio with RDS
  • 1 GB of built-in memory
  • microSDHC memory card slot (up to 8 GB)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 and USB
  • 960 mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 115 x 48 x 16 mm
  • Weight: 140 g

Apart from the lack of 3G, the specs and features of Samsung S9402 look pretty impressive for a luxury phone.

And you can expect a pretty impressive price tag for Samsung S940 DuoS too, when a handset is launched officially.
